Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a brutal assessment of the current Manchester United squad.

Manchester United were able to wiggle out of a tricky European encounter quite well, scripting a 0-1 win over AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday. The victory was engineered ensuring a 2-1 aggregate scoreline, with Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side edging out Milan’s late equalizer during the Old Trafford leg.

The Red Devils were staunch during the fixture, pegging a decent victory via a strong defensive showing. Further, the win would have been unthinkable bereft of half-time substitute Paul Pogba’s excellent goal early on in the second-half.

This win now takes United to the final eight in the Europa League and it now seems like Solskjær’s best shot at silverware.

Having been defeated by his former side, Zlatan Ibrahomovic certainly had choice words.

When quizzed as to how the current United side fares with the one with whom he secured Europa League victory back in 2017, the Swede had an intriguing tongue-in-cheek reply (as per BT Sport): “I think it’s better. It looks better but it doesn’t matter if you don’t win nothing. It’s better than mine but I won trophies that’s the big difference.”

A strong reply that can easily be attributed as the words of a defeated player.

However, the fact that several supporters of the Red Devils will likely agree with Ibrahimovic is also worrying. Despite a string of strong improvements this campaign, United have little to show in terms of tangible results.

They came tantalizingly close to pegging a real title challenge back at the start of the year, only to definitively give up their top-spot to Manchester City.

Now, it will be interesting to see if the Europa League provides any respite.
